When strolling became fashionable in Zurich around 1800, the lower basin of Lake Zurich was created, the largest continuous public park grounds at that time, and Zurich was changed from a small city along a river to a big city by the lake. The lake promenade served a wide-ranging group of people as recreation area – and nothing concerning that has ever changed. Inline skaters, beach lovers, jewelry sellers and street artists all gather here to create a colorful scene.
The outlook terrace at Bürkliplatz is at the middle of the lakeside promenade, from where you can marvel at the other lakeside park areas
The club was founded in 1895. Charles Wood is credited with doing the ground work to get it started. In the early days, the land was leased from Kate Goodwin, but she later accepted the huge some of $7,500 for the 70 acres of land that the golf course occupies.
