What Dallas Moves Actually Involve

Dallas is a sprawling metro where the distances between neighborhoods can catch people off guard. Moving from Uptown to Frisco isn’t a quick trip — it’s 35 miles on the Dallas North Tollway. Moving from Oak Cliff to Plano crosses multiple jurisdictions, toll roads, and drastically different housing stock. Add in Dallas’s rapid construction boom, gated communities with access protocols, and high-rise condos in Uptown and downtown, and you have a move that rewards experience.

Nelson Westerberg has moved Dallas families and businesses long enough to know the city’s geography, its building requirements, and the logistics that make a DFW move work efficiently.

Local Knowledge That Matters

  • High-rise COI requirements: Uptown towers, downtown condos, and new luxury developments along the Katy Trail corridor frequently require a certificate of insurance from your moving company. We provide COIs at no charge, customized to each building’s requirements.
  • Gated community access: Many Dallas-area communities — from Highland Park to Southlake and Westlake — have gate access protocols and HOA move-in rules. We coordinate with property management before move day.
  • Toll roads and routing: DFW’s toll road network (Dallas North Tollway, Sam Rayburn, President George Bush Turnpike) affects routing and timing significantly. We plan routes that balance time and cost for your specific origin and destination.
  • Texas heat: Dallas summers mean 100°F+ temperatures from June through September. We schedule early morning start times and take precautions to protect wood furniture, electronics, and heat-sensitive items.
  • New construction moves: Dallas is one of the fastest-growing metros in the country. New construction deliveries, builder move-ins, and staging moves are a significant part of what we do here — we know how to coordinate with builders and property managers.

Moving Services in Dallas

Local moves: From Uptown and the Design District to Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Plano, or anywhere across DFW. Full-service packing, loading, transport, and unpacking. We use floor runners and door jamb protectors as standard — your home arrives exactly as it left.

Long-distance moves: Dallas to anywhere in the 48 contiguous states. Nelson Westerberg is a licensed interstate carrier. One crew, one truck, one point of accountability — your belongings don’t transfer to a stranger’s truck at a relay warehouse in Oklahoma.

Corporate relocation: DFW is a major corporate hub — AT&T, ExxonMobil, Toyota, Goldman Sachs, and dozens of other headquarters are based here. We work with HR departments, relocation management companies (RMCs), and executives on employee moves, office relocations, and large-scale corporate transitions.

Specialty moves: Art, antiques, wine collections, pianos, and high-value items handled with the care they require. Custom crating and climate-controlled transport available.

What You’ll Pay for a Dallas Move

Nelson Westerberg uses binding not-to-exceed estimates. The price quoted is the ceiling — if the move finishes under the estimate, you pay less. Local DFW moves for a 2-bedroom typically run $850–$1,700. Long-distance moves from Dallas to the coasts range from $3,800–$8,000+ depending on volume and distance. Every estimate is itemized in writing — no verbal ballparks, no surprise charges at delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Nelson Westerberg serve all Dallas neighborhoods?
Yes — we serve Dallas proper and the full DFW metro including Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Richardson, Garland, Irving, Arlington, Fort Worth, Southlake, Westlake, and Highland Park.

How far in advance should I book?
March through August is peak season in Dallas — book 4–6 weeks out. Fall and winter moves can often be scheduled within 2 weeks. High-rise and gated community moves may need additional lead time for building coordination.

Do you provide certificates of insurance for Dallas buildings?
Yes. COIs are standard, at no additional charge, and customized to your building’s specific requirements.

Are you a broker or a licensed carrier?
Licensed interstate carrier. Your belongings are handled by our employees from pickup to delivery — we do not subcontract or broker moves.

What if something is damaged?
All moves include released-value coverage. Full-value protection is available and recommended for high-value items. Claims are handled directly by Nelson Westerberg.

Very Professional

Their movers are very professional, and all their support staff are very good on coordinating the moves to ensure all parties are on the same schedule. With my furniture being temporary stored for few months and there were damages to some of the furniture, they were very efficient to provide compensation for the damaged items. I particularly like their web-based claim filing system, very user friendly.
